The Family Focus background
The Family Focus Medical Clinics were started in 2001. At that time, the clinic founder, Dr. Mark Fletcher, was working as an emergency physician. In this role, he repeatedly saw patients in the emergency department who were there for minor medical complaints that did not require the services of an emergency department, however, these patients often did not have an alternative to obtaining their minor medical care. Many did not have family physicians, and others were not able to get in to see their family physician.
After a visit to several walk-in medical clinics in the Moncton, NB area, Dr. Fletcher decided to establish walk-in clinics in Dartmouth and Lower Sackville in order to give patients an alternative to the lengthy emergency department waits for their minor medical problems. Initially, these two clinics were only opened in the evening and on Saturdays. Over the next few years the walk-in hours were expanded and the Dartmouth clinic added family physicians.
In 2003 the Spring Garden Road clinic was opened and then in 2004 the Joseph Howe Drive clinic was started. The Medicine in Motion Medical Centre is a multi-disciplinary clinic that came to life in 2006. It has family practice and walk-in medical services in addition to an orthopedic surgeon, sports medicine physicians, physiotherapy/massage therapy clinic, orthopedic bracing, custom orthotics, athletic & orthopedic footwear and running clinics.
In 2012 we expanded again with the opening of the Bedford Family Focus Medical Clinic, in Bedford South. This newest clinic is located above Lawtons at 27 Peakview Way which is near the new Bicentennial Drive/Highway 120 exit at the top of Larry Uteck Blvd where there is also a new Sobeys, Royal Bank, and BMO.
